A lovely family day out with 2 circular walks around the park. We recommend ‘The Red Route’ which takes you on a surfaced path around Grebe Lake providing perfect scooting conditions. It is approximately 1.6 miles and takes around 45 minutes if you’re walking. There are lots of different cycle/scoot routes ranging from 1 mile to 10 miles for the slightly more active! Our favourite is the 1 3/4 mile Otter Discovery Trail which takes you around Seventy Acres Lake. Just go to the Lee Valley website and find the tab ‘River Lee Park’, click on the 'cycling, walking and running’ link to take you through to a List of different downloadable and printable trails.

There is plenty for everyone to enjoy at Promenade Park. The galleon play area is great fun with a huge ship-shaped adventure playground, there is also an aerial runway and splash park. The Park also boasts a skate park and BMX track and a more traditional swing park, maze and wildlife garden … they wont be bored here!

HISTORIC LANDMARK

Coalhouse Fort Princess Margaret Rd, East Tilbury, Tilbury RM18 8PB

Not all areas of the fort are open to public access but a visit to the fort is definitely a must if you’re in the East Tilbury area. After visiting the fort why not take a river walk (or scoot!) along flat surfaces footpaths beside the river. Making a great setting for a packed lunch with picnic benches, a children's adventure play area, and nature conservation areas for little ones to do some exploring.

This is a fun family walking tral which is just under 2 miles and you should alow approximately 2 hours to complete. The ground underfoot is good throughout and is considered suitable for both pushchairs and scooters.

FOREST

Thetford Forest is perfect for a family day out in the fresh air! At High Lodge children con do lots of exploring on the different trails and make full use of the play area. There is a large grass area which is perfect for a packed lunch however refreshments are also available in their oak framed building. Depending on your energy levels you can also take a walk at Lynford Arboretum or around the lake.

BEACH

Dunwich Heath Coastal Centre and Beach Coastguard Cottages, Minsmere Rd, Saxmundham IP17 3DJ

This beach and coastal centre provide a great setting for a family day out and providing the weather stays nice it is ideal for packing up a picnic. Guided walks, nature trails, tracker packs, smugglers and history trails, sea-watching and telescopes are all on offer to visitors to the beach. The children's play area is also worth checking out next to tea-room. Please be aware that there is no lifeguard cover on this beach.

A brilliant outside family day out which brings you close to nature and wildlife. The Courtyard Cafe serves locally sourced home-cooked food or you can pack up a picnic for the day. There is plenty to do including pond dipping, being a bug detective and wildlife spotting.

MUSEUM

East Anglian Railway Museum   Station Rd, Wakes Colne, Colchester CO6 2DS

A great day out especially for train lovers of the family! Take part in the many activities offered including a great collection of steam trains locomotives and carriages to explore, and many ways to experience the traditional train service. If you visit at easter and August bank holidays you may be lucky enough to visit Thomas the tank engine and meet the Fat Controller. There is also a great cafe on site if you fancy a sit down!
